With air and water temperatures rising for prime diving season, here are some quick tips to stay healthy while diving this summer.
Tip #1: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Between bright sunshine, warm salty water and physical activity it’s always a smart idea to always have a supply of water on hand whether it be a bottle, glass or CamelBak© of liquids. Water is optimal but a sports drink or crystal light type of drink mix is also refreshing. REMEMBER: dehydration is a leading cause of DCS.
Tip #2: Make sure you apply sunscreen frequently. We recommend reef- friendly sunscreen even on cloudy days. For most travelers, a dive vacation includes lots of outdoor time which may be contrary to everyday life (at least for office dwellers!). Sunscreen will not only protect you from painful sunburn but also protect your skin from UV rays.
Tip #3: Don’t forget your sunglasses! Protect your eyes from bright light during diving time on and near the water. Sunlight and can damage your eyesight over time. We recommend never leaving home without them.
Tip #4: Au natural, a rash guard or light wetsuit? The choice is up to you. Depending on how you usually explore the underwater world will determine which is right for you. Do you tend to run into fire coral without even realizing it? Do you lose body heat quickly? Does it feel like pure freedom to jump in unfettered by neoprene? Maybe just a swimsuit is right for you.
No matter what your choices are – have a great summer of diving!
