Shark Diving in the Bahamas
With Caribbean Reef Sharks on nearly every dive, the Exuma Cays are a perfect destination for shark lovers. From May to July, Blacknose Sharks can be seen schooling in the Blue Hole, and there’s always the chance to see other species such as Great Hammerheads!
Whether at the wreck of the Austin Smith or Split Coral Head in Eleuthera, these dive sites are perfect for a thrilling shark dive. Elke is the founder of Red Sea Sharks Trust. Elke has been studying sharks in the Egyptian Red Sea for over 20 years. During this time she has tracked their migration and collected data using photo identification.
When joining a shark week trip, guests can sit in on lectures about Elke’s research and global threats against shark populations. Elke’s experience with sharks in Egypt has taught her how and where to find certain species of sharks that can be difficult to find. On a Brothers, Daedalus, Elphinstone itinerary you can spot oceanic whitetips, thresher sharks, hammerheads, silky and reef sharks.

Indonesia Shark Diving
Indonesia is one of the top dive destinations in the world, but not necessarily because of its shark diving. In the heart of the coral triangle, most divers come for the coral, the macro-life or manta rays. While manta rays are in the same family as sharks, it’s not what we’re looking for when we say we want to dive with sharks.
Despite the fact that shark diving is not the primary draw to Indonesia, it’s still has some of the most unique shark encounters on earth. The Banda Sea is known for schooling hammerheads and in the October-November season it’s one of the most reliable places to experience schools of more hammerheads than you can count. Check out this video of the diving in Banda Sea.
If diving or snorkeling with whale sharks is on your bucket list, then Triton Bay should be towards the top of your list. Whale sharks reliably show up to fishing platforms in this region offering divers an up close and personal encounter. Can’t decide if you would rather see the schooling hammerheads or the whale sharks? Why not experience both! All Star Aurora offers transition trips that visit both Banda Sea and Triton Bay on the same itinerary.
Cuba’s Jardines de la Reina – Sharks, Sharks and More Sharks!
Cuba’s Jardines de la Reina Marine Park (also known as Gardens of the Queen), has some of the most pristine reefs in the Caribbean. The marine park is 800 sq. miles of protected reefs and mangrove islands. These mangroves act as a nursery for juvenile species keeping the reef stocked with a healthy fish population. Combine that with a marine park and its no-fish, no take protections and you find enormous goliath grouper and schools of silky sharks and reef sharks on nearly every dive. For those wanting an extra thrill, there are opportunities to snorkel with crocodiles in the mangroves.
All Star offers week-long liveaboard trips aboard Jardines Avalon to Jardines de la Reina departing every Saturday.
