Meet Our Crew
With us since 1992, when he joined us as a dive instructor, Captain Ron has been captain aboard The Aqua Cat since she was commissioned in 2001. Hot Texas summers led to lifeguarding and later a Scuba Instructor in 1981 while finishing a Chemistry degree at Texas A&M University. Ron holds a 1600 ton license from the US Coast Guard and when not aboard, he enjoy’s riding motorcycles, hunting, or woodworking.
Des is from Port Elizabeth, South Africa where he grew up loving the ocean. He began his career on the Aqua Cat in 2005 as a dive instructor. Previous to working on the Aqua Cat, Des was an instructor in South Africa and Thailand. On the Aqua Cat he worked his way up to first mate before becoming the captain on the Cat Ppalu in 2010. He was promoted captain on the Aqua Cat in 2012.
Jason was born in Tampa, Florida but raised in Las Vegas. He has a passion for flying with an expert level pilot ranking for hang gliders. You would never guess he has a fear of heights!
Engineer, First Mate & Eco Leader
Adam grew up in a small fishing village called Knysna along the ragged coastline of Southern Africa renowned for its unspoiled beauty and forests inhabited by phantasmal elephants. This is where he mastered the art of taming wild animals, making fire, fishing, scuba diving and sailing. He started working for us as a dive instructor and after a few years we realized that with his amazing cat-like reflexes and wizard-like hands he was destined to become our Engineer aboard Aqua Cat. He has since worked his way up to first mate with a captain’s license and drives the Sea Dog and leads the eco-adventures.
Jake hails from Cambridge, UK and enjoys everything related to the outdoors including but not limited to football, cycling, SUPs, hiking and beer brewing. He is a history nerd who loves to travel. Jake has explored most of Europe, Honduras, many islands in the Caribbean, Malaysia, Indonesia and North America, too. His special power is that he can talk to fish, unfortunately, they don’t listen very well.
Jilly joins us from Windsor, Ontario, Canada where she earned her degree in Business from the University of Windsor. She likes photography, diving and traveling and playing her violin. She traveled thru Europe and then Asia settling in Thailand for a bit before joining the team. She is a great whistler!
Gus hails from Brazil and has worked in the dive industry for years. He is an avid photographer and videographer who enjoys capturing moments as well as marine life on film. He loves to dance, sing and nobody knows this but he speaks Portuguese, too.
Dive InstructorScotty was raised in Preston, Lancashire, UK and holds a certificate in motor vehicle technician. He loves motorcycles, motor sports and is a gearhead. He enjoys traveling to new places, diving and cycling in his off time.
Virginia has a degree in Marine Biology from Auburn University and is originally from Atlanta, GA. She is into yoga, making jewelry and hula hoops! She worked in Asia for a few years including Thailand, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. She can do handstands, who knew?!
“Shorty” hails from Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, the home of Shakespeare! She holds a degree in Psychology but learned most of her lessons living life. She enjoys hiking, kit surfing even though she is terrible at it, and traveling. In her spare time, she performs weddings as an ordained minister. She has presided over 200 marriages so far!
Charles join us from Jamaica and is a skilled engineer who keeps everything running in tip top shape! When not up to his elbows in grease, he enjoys writing poetry. He has traveled throughout Europe, the US and the Caribbean. He loves to sing reggae songs, too!
Tom started as a dive instructor on the Aqua Cat way back when and worked his way up to captain on our Blackbeard’s fleet. He has since added engineer to his long list of accomplishments and returned to the Aqua Cat in this capacity. He has visited 6 of the 7 continents on Earth. One more to go!
Jesse is from Peru and joined the Aqua Cat team on day one! She started traveling after college and landed in the Bahamas after exploring South and Central America extensively. She is a foodie and loves anything with pasta, ceviche and Japanese food best. On her off time, you can find her playing volleyball on the beach!
Karina joins us from her homeland of Peru where she studied Psychology. She loves karaoke, reading, salsa dancing and her 2 dogs and cats. She has traveled extensively throughout South America but has settled in the Bahamas with her husband. You would never guess this, but at one time, she wanted to be a nun!
Kelly is known as the princess among the crew! She is from Lima, Peru and attended cooking school in Argentina. She enjoys dancing, photography, rafting and canopy flying! She loves ceviche! Her father is a professional soccer player so she grew up with a soccer ball nearby!
Yari, as she is known to everyone, comes from Panama and assists our chef with grace and speed. She loves to read and dance in her spare time. She loves to travel and has been all over the world.
