Join Sport Diver Editor Mark Evans and underwater photojournalist Stuart Philpott on board the luxury liveaboard Aqua Cat for what promises to be an epic dive trip in November 2016.
It has been several years since the last Sport Diver Reader Trip, and 2016 will see these resume in style, with a liveaboard cruise around the Exuma Marine Park in the Bahamas, which boasts dramatic abyssal walls, colourful coral reefs, marine critters from seahorses and frogfish to trevally, turtles and eagle rays, and exhilarating drift dives. Oh, and did we mention sharks?
Our home for the week will be the Aqua Cat, a 31-metre catamaran with an enormous lounge/dining area, dual sundeck, massive dive deck and spacious cabins which all boast large picture windows so you can soak up the stunning vistas of the Bahamas when you wake up on a morning. And let’s not forget the delicious array of food that will be served up for breakfast, lunch and dinner – you certainly won’t lose any weight on this voyage! Then there is the all-inclusive bar for après-dive de-briefs…
The trip is suitable for all levels of diver, and over the course of the week Mark and Stuart will be running several workshops focusing on all aspects of underwater photography, from entry-level hints and advice aimed at raw novices right up to more-advanced techniques for the more-accomplished, as well as dedicated shoots majoring on underwater modelling and capturing story-telling images that would work in a magazine article.
There will also be a photography competition held onboard, to be judged on the final day, with fantastic prizes for the winners in the different categories, which will include the usual Wide-Angle, Macro, Compact, DSLR, etc, as well as Most Improved to recognize those who perhaps only took up an underwater camera in anger for the first time on the trip.
Of course, you don’t have to be an underwater photographer to come on the trip. You can just join us for the craic, and enjoy the superlative diving on offer in this part of the world. There will be a special ten-page article produced from the trip, so you’ll also be in the magazine!
The trip runs from 26 November to 3 December, starting and finishing in Nassau, and is priced at US$2,995. This includes seven night’s accommodation, all port fees, six days of diving (that’s 26 dives in total!), airport transfers, all food and drink, and the photo workshops with Stuart and Mark.
